This combined project contributes to the financing of a certified climate project while additionally supporting nature conservation efforts in Germany. For every tonne of CO₂ saved through the certified climate project, a financial contribution is directed to the Mountain Forest Project in Rostock. In this way, we enable a range of local activities such as species and habitat conservation, beach clean-up campaigns, and forestry work.

The nature conservation project in Rostock is combined with a certified solar project in India (climatepartner.com/1429), which harnesses the power of the sun to generate renewable energy.

“The Rostock city forest is characterized by its unique combination of beach and woodland. Due to its particularly valuable plants, animals, and habitats, more than half of the area is designated as an FFH site under European nature conservation law. As part of the project activities, orchard meadows were maintained, young forest stands promoted, non-native spruce trees removed, tree shelters maintained, and litter cleared. Regular project weeks contribute to the long-term strengthening of species and habitat conservation.”

Our additional commitment: a financial contribution for every tonne of carbon reduced

With our combined project, we combine verified emission reductions through a certified climate project with an additional commitment to regional nature conservation. European ecosystems are also affected by climate change. Our regional nature conservation initiatives are therefore committed to preserving or restoring natural habitats and adapting them to climatic changes.

Possible project activities include the protection and conversion of native forests, the conservation of animal and plant biodiversity, peatland restoration, or the conversion of agricultural land. The certified climate project is registered with international standards.

Fakta om projektet

Klimatprojekt kan generellt delas in i tre kategorier: koldioxidminskning, koldioxidborttagning och koldioxidundvikande. Projekten som fokuserar på koldioxidminskning syftar till att minska mängden växthusgaser som alstras från en specifik aktivitet, exempelvis genom förbättrade spisar. Koldioxidborttagningsprojekt syftar till att extrahera koldioxid från atmosfären och lagra den i kolsänkor, som till exempel skogsplanteringar. Slutligen syftar projekt inom koldioxidundvikande till att förhindra att växthusgaser släpps ut i atmosfären, till exempel genom att skydda skogar från avskogning via REDD+-projekt.

Klimatprojekt minskar, tar bort eller undviker påvisbart växthusgasutsläpp. Detta uppnås med olika teknologier, från naturbaserade lösningar till sociala påverkansprojekt och förnybar energi.
