A certified climate project combined with additional commitment
Switzerland is home to a wide range of habitats: forests, meadows, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. Many of these ecosystems are threatened or have declined significantly. As a result, the habitat available to many animal and plant species is shrinking.
Intact, structurally rich habitats protect the climate and support biodiversity. Species-rich ecosystems respond more resiliently to heat, drought, and heavy rainfall than uniform landscapes. Connectivity is also crucial: without links between habitats, many species struggle to find food and reproduce.
In Waldenburg, the Forstbetriebe Frenkentäler specifically improve conditions for animals and plants and strengthen the connection between different habitats. Thanks to a new ecological corridor, rare species such as butterflies find better conditions for reproduction. The project creates light-rich areas so that plants such as orchids can spread again. Restored and newly built dry stone walls provide insects with new habitats and connect individual areas. In this way, the project strengthens regional biodiversity in the long term.
The nature conservation initiative is part of a combined project.
Companies investing in this project support both the planting of climate-resilient trees and a certified international climate project – delivering double the impact. For every tonne of CO2 saved through the contribution via a certified climate project, a financial contribution flows to Forstbetriebe Frenkentäler.
Currently, nature conservation in Switzerland is combined with a certified social impact project in India (climatepartner.com/1607). This climate project enables local women to purchase clean energy products such as solar lamps and water filters.
Combined climate projects to date:
Solar energy, India (climatepartner.com/1447)
Wind energy, Ovalle, Chile (climatepartner.com/1272).

Our additional commitment: a financial contribution for every tonne of carbon reduced
With our combined project, we combine verified emission reductions through a certified climate project with an additional commitment to regional nature conservation. European ecosystems are also affected by climate change. Our regional nature conservation initiatives are therefore committed to preserving or restoring natural habitats and adapting them to climatic changes.
Possible project activities include the protection and conversion of native forests, the conservation of animal and plant biodiversity, peatland restoration, or the conversion of agricultural land. The certified climate project is registered with international standards.
What’s a combined project?
With combined projects, ClimatePartner brings together funding for international, certified climate projects with additional support for nature conservation projects.
